How do I know if my works of SEO?

This is perhaps a question that precedes all the implicit purpose of why you're doing SEO - if you are an agency to do for a client, you are a freelancer who works on your own site or you're a small business owner trying out SEO for the first time. It's a timeless question that deserves an answer.

And yes there are ways to know.


Fluctuation factors

How do you know if your SEO is working really not an easy thing to find - especially with all the factors involved. So I'm going to break down the main factors of fluctuation. Most of which are beyond its control:

The website changes
Google Changes
Competition
Searcher Behavior Changes
Keep these four things in mind for now.

Basically, there are two main things you should use to make sure your SEO is working and these are your keywords rankings and traffic.

1) Text Ratings



Classifications

This is why monitoring range is important and is a big industry today. Know where your keywords in search results is the primary indicator of your SEO efforts. Without movement, even if your website is new, it means you're not doing SEO right at all.

If there are some fluctuations in the first three months in keyword ranking, that's a good thing. Usually, it means that your SEO efforts are beginning to take effect. The aim is that in the sixth month, you are on the first page of search results for your keywords.

2) Traffic

Google Changes

We all know that all updates that Google launched famous as one of two strokes against spam. Panda, Penguin, EMD, and the list continues.

Here is a list of one of the greatest years of changes of Google (2012) history of Google algorithm changes Moz:

2012 Updates
Panda # dic 23-21 2012

Just before the Christmas holidays, Google launched a new Panda update. They officially called a "refresh", affecting 1.3% of English queries. This was a slightly greater impact than pandas # 21 and # 22.
Knowledge Graph Expansion - December 4, 2012

Google Knowledge Graph added functionality questions are not in English, including Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Russian and Italian. This update was "more than the translation" and add enhanced capabilities KG.
Panda No. 22 hasta 21 November 2012

After some mixed signals, he confirmed Google Panda Update 22, which seems to have been just data. This came on the heels of one, but the update unidentified bigger around November 19.
Panda No. 21 a November 5, 2012

Exact-Match Domain (EMD) Update - September 27, 2012

Google announced a change in the way it was handled exact match domains (EMD). This led to large-scale devaluation, reducing the presence of EMD in MozCast data provided by more than 10%. Official word is that this change affected 0.6% of consultations (by volume).
Panda 3.9.2 (# 19) - September 18, 2012

Google launched another Panda update, which appears to have been only data. Classification flow was moderate, but not on par with an update large-scale algorithm.
Panda 3.9.1 (# 18) - August 20, 2012

Google launched a new update of data from Panda, but the impact appears to be quite small. Since the Panda 3.0 series ran out of numbers in 3.9, the new update called 3.9.1.
SERPs 7 Results - August 14, 2012

Google made a significant change in the Top 10 and limited to 7 for many queries. Our research showed that this change rolled over a few days, eventually affecting about 18% of the keywords tracked.
June / July 86-Pack - August 10, 2012

After a hiatus of summer, June and July Search Top quality were shot in a mega-post. Data included major upgrades and refreshes Panda algorithm, a feature enhanced range order (?), A ranking boost "reliable sources", and changes in the group site.
DMCA Pena ("pirate") - August 10, 2012

Panda 3.5 (# 13) - April 19, 2012

In the middle of a busy week for algorthim, Google quietly released an update of data from Panda. A mixture of changes made the impact difficult to measure, but this seems to have been a fairly routine update with minimal impact.
Bug parked domain - April 16, 2012

After a number of webmasters range shuffles reported, Google confirmed that a data error caused some domains to be treated as wrongly parked domains (and therefore devalued). This was not an intentional change algorithm.
March 50-Pack - April 3, 2012

Google released another batch update highlights, covering 50 changes in March. These include confirming Panda 3.4, changes to anchor-text "scoring", changes to the image search, and changes in how queries are interpreted with local intent.
Panda 3.4 (# 12) - March 23, 2012

Google announced a new Panda update, this time via Twitter that the update was deployed. His public pronouncements felt that Panda 3.4 hit about 1.6% of search results.

Venice - February 27, 2012

Google launched a new round of "Highlights of search quality" (17 in total). Many related to speed, freshness and spelling, but an important announcement was the closer integration of Panda in the main search index.

Google updated its page layout algorithms to devalue sites too ad-space above the "fold". Previously it suspected that a similar factor was at play in Panda. The update had no official name, but referred to as "top heavy" is made by some SEOs.

Google confirmed a Panda update the data, but suggested that the algorithm had not changed. It was not clear how this fits into the scheme of "Panda Flux" of more frequent data changes.
Search + Your World - January 10, 2012

Google announced a radical change in customizing - aggressively pushing Google+ social data and user profiles in SERPs. Google also added a new button, prominent lever to close the customization.
January 30-Pack - January 5, 2012

Google announced 30 changes over the previous month, including image search landing page quality detection, site more relevant links, the richest fragments and related improvements in queries. The line between an "update of something" and a "function" has a little more blurred.

Mobile Update AKA "Mobilegeddon" - April 22, 2015

In a rare move, Google pre-announced an update of the algorithm, which tells us that the phones would be different ranking sites for mobile use since April 21. The impact of this upgrade was, in the short term, much smaller than expected, and our data showed that the algorithm flow peaked on April 22.
Unnamed Update - February 4, 2015

Multiple SERP-trackers and many webmasters reported significant flow in Google SERPs. Speculation ranged between e-commerce focused update for an upgrade of mobile usability. Google officially confirmed an upgrade.
These factors fluctuation Google companies are not really easy to treat if you are a person who is the website goes down best practices and ethical standards. And believe me, there are plenty of websites out there that have experienced the fierce wrath of Google and was penalized either, or space isolated from the main index.

COMPETITION

Search Competition

There are few things you could do with competition as an SEO specialist. The best thing you could do is really just study. If competitors are affecting their ranking (as you would naturally) here are some things you want to do to check out:

1) Study your backlink profile - we used this cognitive SEO

What we want to achieve: If your backlinks are from places where you can also get links from, try. Sometimes sites have links that are low hanging fruit in terms of getting backlinks as dofollow blog comments or forum posts. Sometimes it would take much more than grinding, as guest posts. And sometimes, if you're very lucky, you find a broken link pointing to your competitor and you could steal directly.

2) Look what users may be doing activities to spend more time on your site

What we want to achieve: Make your visitors stay on your site and your competitor. It takes about 30 seconds for the results to show on our website so you have to wait and spend more time there. This is a great way to reduce bounce rate and increase user activity and engagement.

How classified into Google vs Making SEO

When the term "SEO", but was not as popular back in 2007, people were looking for "How to rank in Google" much more often. So SEO is a bit more mainstream and people began to change "Making SEO". This does not mean that "how to rank in Google" searches became less. It's just that "Making SEO" was the key phrase right to use and what is not a change of keywords that occurred somewhere in 2011 according to Google Trends.

Of course, seeing this picture, as it is now, would aim "Making SEO" instead of "How to rank on Google" but way back in 2007, "How to Make SEO" (almost) did not exist as a phrase Search. Key was a change in the search behavior and sometimes the new word / key phrase eats the previous / key phrase keyword traffic.
